Traders call Bharat Bandh on September 28

MUMBAI: The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), a national federation of small traders and businessmen, has called a Bharat Trade Bandh on September 28 to protest the Walmart-Flipkart deal and FDI in retail. The association claimed six crore affiliate shops and establishments will down shutters.

A section of Mumbai’s traders protesting the plastic ban in June-July had also expressed apprehension over international retail chains cornering the lion’s share of the market. “Even as the Walmart-Flipkart deal is threatening crores of businesses, there are reports that another giant Alibaba will strike a deal with Reliance Retail to counter this tie-up. Where does that leave small shopkeepers?” said CAIT national secretary general Praveen Khandelwal.
